March Mindfulness: Nurturing a Resilient Nervous System

Updated: Mar 27

Finding steadiness in moments of transition

As we step into March — that gentle in-between of winter’s stillness and spring’s awakening — it’s the perfect time to tune into the rhythms of your nervous system. Just like nature, our bodies hold seasons of rest and renewal, activation and movement.

This month, we’re exploring the theme “Nurturing a Resilient Nervous System.” In life, so much of our well-being comes from learning to regulate our internal state — to notice when we’re in overdrive, to soften when we can, and to ground ourselves when life feels fast.

Ways to support your nervous system this month

Here are a few ways to support your nervous system this month:

  • Breathe with awareness. Try a simple 4-4-8 breath pattern — inhale for 4, hold for 4, exhale for 8 — to cue your body’s rest and digest response.

  • Create safety through routine. Gentle structure in your days helps your body feel grounded and calm.

  • Practice self-compassion. Your nervous system mirrors how you speak to yourself. Be kind; it matters.

  • Move with intention. Whether it’s a slow yoga flow, a walk outside, or mindful stretching, movement helps energy release and reset.

You might notice as the light returns and days lengthen, your own energy begins to shift. This is your nervous system responding to nature’s cues — invitation enough to slow down and listen.

The goal is for a resilient nervous system - one that responds and flows with ease. It is unrealistic to expect a constant state of calm. The desire is just that our nervous system can return to calm, time and time again as our triggers, emotions and adversity continue to move.
