Rooted in the Present: Simple Ways to Feel More Grounded This August

Small daily practices to help you slow down, reconnect, and carry what nourishes you into the next season.
Hello beautiful community,
August can feel like a month of transition. Summer is still unfolding, but September and the busyness of a new season are already appearing on the horizon.
This month, I’m inviting you to explore the theme Rooted in the Present.
Being present doesn’t mean ignoring the future or pretending life is always calm. It means gently returning to what is happening right now: the warmth of the sun, the sound of the trees, a meaningful conversation, a child’s laughter, or one steady breath.
When we slow down enough to notice the present moment, we create space to listen to ourselves, regulate our nervous systems, and reconnect with what truly nourishes us.
A simple daily practice
Try choosing one small grounding practice each day:
Monday — Notice your senses 54321 Pause for one minute and name five things you can see, four things you can feel, three things you can hear, two things you can smell, and one thing you can taste.
Tuesday — Step outside Spend five to ten minutes outdoors without your phone. Notice the sky, trees, breeze, birds, or ground beneath your feet.
Wednesday — Breathe before responding When you feel rushed or activated, take three slow breaths before answering a message, beginning a task, or responding to a family member.
Thursday — Savor one ordinary moment Drink your coffee or tea slowly. Enjoy a meal without multitasking. Notice a moment of connection instead of moving quickly to the next thing.
Friday — Ask what you need Pause and ask yourself: “What would support me today—rest, movement, connection, quiet, nourishment, or help?”
Saturday — Create a phone-free pocket Set aside 20–30 minutes without scrolling, notifications, or productivity. Let your mind have room to settle.
Sunday — Reflect and release Write down one thing you are grateful for, one thing you are carrying forward, and one thing you are willing to release.
These practices may seem small, but small moments of awareness can gradually change how we move through our days. You do not need to create a perfect routine. You only need to begin again, gently and without judgment.
A reflection for August
As we move toward a new season, consider:
What has nourished me this summer?
What has helped me feel connected and grounded?
What am I ready to carry forward?
What expectations or pressures can I set down?
What kind of support would help me enter the next season with greater steadiness?
You are allowed to enjoy the present moment before planning the next one.
